Winona Majel Hornbuckle

Winona Majel Hornbuckle, age 91, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Louisburg Healthcare and Rehab.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, January 22, 2024, at Louisburg First Christian Church, 602 N 1st Street, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be held after the funeral at the Louisburg Cemetery.

Winona was born on Wednesday, January 27, 1932, in Middle Creek Township, Kansas. She was the eldest child to Ernest Christopher and Majel Estelle (Stephens) Kohlenberg. Winona grew up in the Miami County area and attended Louisburg schools. She graduated from Louisburg High School with the class of 1950.

Winona was married to Sterling P. Hornbuckle III on Sunday, November 16, 1952, at the Louisburg United Methodist Church. They were happily married for 62 years. Sterling preceded her in death on Monday, December 22, 2014.

She worked as an office secretary for the United States Social Security Administration for 40 years before retiring.

Winona loved to garden and enjoyed many different types of flowers. She was considered to be a great neighbor and enjoyed walking around the neighborhood. Winona could always be found at all the Masonic Lodge events with her husband.

She was a member and played piano at the Louisburg United Methodist Church. Winona and Sterling later became members of the Louisburg First Christian Church. They were very involved with the church and loved their church family.

Winona is preceded in death by her husband, Sterling P. Hornbuckle III, and her parents, Ernest and Majel Kohlenberg.

Survivors include one brother, Eldon Kohlenberg, nephews, Carl and Gary Hornbuckle, David, Chris and Mike Kohlenberg, niece, Sheryl Manger, and many great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made payable to the Louisburg First Christian Church or Peace Lodge #243, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, P.O. Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
