Winifred Alice McPherson of Pomona, Kansas passed June 2, 2024 at her care residence.
Winifred (Winnie) was born at home in rural Ottawa (near the Chippewa Hills) on November 3, 1927, the fifth child of Todd Silas Coen and Lillian Marie (Illian).
She attained two years of college at Union College in Lincoln Nebraska.
In 1949, Winifred married Teddy Wells (deceased) with whom she had 5 children: David, Dovie, Molly, Mike and Todd (deceased). She was also married to Albert Johnson and Howard McPherson (both deceased).
Winifred worked at various institutional and Healthcare positions and was eventually employed as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Winifred was a long-time member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Ottawa, where she served as pianist for many years. Besides playing the piano, she also enjoyed travel, sewing, baking bread, gardening, bird watching, raising chickens, writing poetry/poems, helping people, reading the Bible, and witnessing for the Lord.
Winifred was preceded in death by her parents Todd and Lillian Coen; son Todd Wells; brothers Kenneth, Chester and Warren Coen; and sisters Marjory and Eleanor Coen.
She is survived by her sons: David (of Ottawa) and Michael (Mike) Wells; daughters: Lillian ‘Dovie’ Hein of Ottawa, Kansas and Maureen (Molly) Wells; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Her ever-growing family was her pride and joy.
Memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date.
