Winfred Lawrence

Winfred Dow Lawrence, 89, of Paola, Kansas passed away on November 8, 2011 at his home. Winfred was born to Lorenzo Dow and Mary Ellen Kirby Lawrence on March 22, 1922 in Jasper County, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942-1945 and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans. In 1947 Winfred married Henrietta Theobald in Paola, Kansas. He worked as a cement finisher with Mo-Kan Concrete Company and as the Maintenance Manager at Medical Lodge of Paola. Winfred loved to fish, and spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to aggravate and tease them. He also enjoyed spending time tending to his flowers and feeding the squirrels. Winfred was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Merwin, Elmer, Roy, and Alfred Lawrence; sisters Ruth Davis and Amanda Ensminger; and one great grandchild. He is survived by his wife of the home; son Henry D. "Bud" Lawrence of Pleasanton, KS; daughters Shirley and Jerry Smith of Pleasanton, KS, Mary Graham of Mound City, KS, and Katie and Fred Scherman of Paola, KS; 10 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and "his baby girl" Lucy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Crossroads Hospice, 9237 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
