Wilma J. Peters, almost 92 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Friday, May 24, 2013 at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas. She was born on Wednesday, July 6, 1921 in Jackson County, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Roy and Minnie Malinda (Graves) McCright. She was a resident of Ottawa since March of 2010, moving from Fredonia, Kansas. She grew up in Jackson County, Oklahoma but also resided in Oklahoma City, Spencer, Enid, Lamont, and Newkirk in Oklahoma; Ashton in Illinois; and, Tisdale (near Winfield), Lincoln, Stafford, Smith Center, Lyons, Osage City, and Cherryvale in Kansas. Wilma graduated from Friendship High School in Oklahoma with the class of 1939. She graduated from Cameron Junior College in Lawton, Oklahoma with a degree in Home Economics. Following her graduation she studied Christian Education at Oklahoma City University for one year. Wilma devoted her life to her family and the church. She worked with her husband throughout his career as a minister in the United Methodist Church, and for seven years she worked for the Department of Social & Rehabilitation Services in Wilson County, Kansas starting in 1979. Wilma was a member of United Methodist Women, sponsored youth groups, taught youth Sunday school classes for thirty years, organized prayer groups and worked with senior citizens. She never met a stranger and was happy to listen to anyone who needed to talk. On Sunday, August 31, 1941, Wilma was united in marriage with Rev. Gilbert S. Peters in Lawton, Oklahoma. They celebrated 70 years together. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2011. She is survived by her: sister, Colleen Folsom of Prosper, TX; brother, L.G. Carrifee and his wife, Agatha of Phoenix, AZ; two sons, Paul Peters and his wife, Karla of Lawrence, Kansas Mark Peters and his wife, Pam of Paola, KS; two daughters, Jeanne Briggs and her husband, Ron of Pottsboro, TX, Elaine Moeller and her husband, George of Umatilla, FL; Grandchildren - Julie Lesslie, David Peters, Lisa Peters,Tonya Peters, Dan Peters, Valerie Briggs, Keith Briggs, Jessica Abou, Rachel Dunn; Great Grandchildren - Fourteen She is preceded in death by her: Parents - James Roy and Minnie Malinda McCright Husband – Rev.
