Bill was the first of six children born to William B and Opal Agnes (Boyd) Richards on September 20, 1925 in Argentine, Kansas. Bill was raised on a farm near Spring Hill, Kansas. He attended Spring Hill High School and joined the Navy in November 1943. He was in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He returned home from the Navy in April of 1946. He was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Adelene Louise Oberheide on November 16, 1947. Bill worked at a variety of auto body shops in the area and eventually opened his own auto body shop. After retiring from the auto body business, Bill then started Richards Glass and Tow, in addition, to working for the United States Postal Service as a clerk. He continued to operate his Glass and Tow service after he retired from the Postal Service. After the death of his wife, he eventually retiried but would do occasional glass jobs for friends as his health and will-power allowed. After retirement, Bill would go to his coffee clubs, the Senior Center and the Louisburg Fire Station on a daily basis. Additionally, he frequented as many garage sales as he could find because he didn’t have enough “stuff.” He was a life-time member of VFW Post 7348 and a life-time member of the John P. Hand Post 250. He is survived by his three sons, Robert (Bob) and wife, Kathy of Overland Park, Kansas; William (Bill) and wife Marcia of Lenexa, Kansas; and Paul and wife Linda of Louisburg, Kansas. Grandchildren, Christine, Dallas, Billie, Toni, Greg, and Michael; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters, Carole Sticker and husband, Jerry, Gardner, Kansas and Dorothy Lay of Lawrence, Kansas; and two sisters-in-law, Sandra Richards of Gainesville, Missouri and Lois Richards of Paola, Kansas. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years, and brothers, James (Jim), Herbert (Herb), and Merrill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church or the Louisburg Firefighters.
