William Peuser

Joseph William "Bill" Peuser, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at St. John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and appreciated his steadfast devotion to his family, his work, and God throughout his life. Rosary will be said at 10:00 am on Saturday November 12, 2011 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Bill was born on December 25, 1917 to W. M. and Rose Peuser. He grew up in the Wea " Louisburg area with brother Leonard (deceased) and sisters Agnes Scherman and Lillian Tallio. The family moved to Paola where Bill graduated from high school in 1939. Bill was in the first group from Miami County to be inducted into the U.S. Army when World War II broke out. He spent 5 years overseas in the 1st Armored Division and participated in the invasions of Oran, Salerno, and Anzio. Bill married Catherine Irene Mayer on January 20, 1945 while on a 30 day leave from military duty in Italy. Together they raised three children and were owners of Paola Chevrolet in Paola for many years. Irene preceded Bill in death on January 25, 2009, just days after their 64th wedding anniversary. Bill was preceded in death by his parents W. M. and Rose Peuser, brother Leonard Peuser, grandson Mark (Ruth) Everhart, and great grandson Nicholas Everhart, all of Paola. Survivors are son Stephen (Elisabeth) Peuser of Salida, Colorado; daughter Lisa (Alan) Everhart of Paola; son Bill (Amanda) Peuser of Charleston, South Carolina; sisters Agnes Scherman and Lillian Tallio of Paola; grandchildren Gretchen (Kyle) Kellner, Michael Everhart, Reed Peuser, Kaelen Peuser, Abigail Peuser, and Emma Peuser; and two great grandchildren Ashley and Emery Everhart. Memorial contributions may be made to LUNGevity Foundation (Lung Cancer Research) or VFW Scholarship Fund.
