William Orville Dent

William Orville Dent was born on Thursday, February 18, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Max and Geneva (Wilson) Dent. William grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. Following his military service, he lived in Ottawa, Kansas, Yuma, Arizona, Vincennes, Indiana, and Little River, South Carolina. In 1998, he returned to Ottawa, moving to Pittsburg, Kansas in 2004, where he made his home until his death on Monday, October 15, 2007, at the age of fifty-three years. He was a self-employed carpenter. William served his country in the United States Army attaining the rank of E-2. He was a member of Bikers Against Child Abuse and a member of several bowling leagues. William was greatly devoted to his family, loved children, and was an expert carpenter. He enjoyed bowling and playing pool, as well as hunting and fishing. On March 17, 1995, William was united in marriage with Lorie O'Brien in Vincennes, Indiana. She survives of their home. He is also survived by three daughters, Michelle, Billie Jo, and Jennie, all of Missouri; son, Travis of Missouri; three brothers, Cleve Dent of Ottawa, Jason Cox of Ottawa, Billy Cox of Arcadia; sister, Saundra Phillips of Ottawa; four stepchildren, Brandon, Jennifer, Diane, of Kansas, Mindy of Indiana; twenty-three grandchildren; aunt and uncle, Barb and Larry Wohletz; eight nieces and nephews; twenty-six great-nieces and nephews; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Mr. Dent was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Joe Cox; Bill Cox; and great-nephew, Skylar Sweetwood. SERVICES: Graveside funeral services will be held from Highland Cemetery, 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 22, 2007. IN STATE: Mr. Dent will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 9p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends 5 to 6 Sunday evening.
