William Lee Baker, age 68, of Stilwell, KS passed away August 26, 2013 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. He was born October 7, 1944 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Robert C. and Mabel E. (Nickle) Baker. Shortly after his mother"s death Bill went to live with his Aunt and Uncle, Elva "Slats" and Blanche (Nickle) Mathis, and lived with them until he graduated in 1962 from Louisburg High School. They accepted him as one of their own and guided him down the right path in life. He married Joan Anita Burgess in 1963 and later divorced. He was a small business owner of several businesses throughout his life, a lime service, a carpet installation company and a trucking company. He was a generous man who donated his time, money and services to others. He graded the ball fields at Stilwell Elementary School, graded neighbors driveway and plowed snow for many. Bill refused to hand out candy on Halloween and opted for apples instead. Survivors include one son, Jim Baker (Kelci), Pleasanton, KS; one daughter, Julie Adams (Larry), Louisburg, KS; two grandsons, Bobby Baker, Quenemo, KS and Ryan Adams, Louisburg, KS; a granddaughter and two great granddaughters he never knew, Amanda, Kennedy and Chloe; one brother, Bob Baker, Paola, KS and one sister, Bonnie (Rod) Shade, Roeland Park, KS. He also leaves a little dog that he "dog sat" every day, Patrick. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Auston McLellan USD 416 Endowment Association Fund.
