William F. 'Bill' Ogle was born March 20, 1931, at Vassar, Kansas. He was the son of William Wilson and Bertha Grace (Barber) Ogle. Bill grew up in the Michigan Valley, Kansas area, moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in 1953, where he made his home until his death Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at the age of seventy-three years. Bill graduated from Michigan Valley High School with the class of 1949. From 1949 to 1952, Bill drove a milk route with his brother; was a field man for Bennett's Creamery in the early 1960's; Dairy Inspector for the state of Kansas; and owned and operated Ogle Refrigeration in Ottawa. In 1997, he was elected commissioner for Franklin County District 3, serving four years. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from May of 1952 to January of 1956, earning the rank of Corporal. He was dedicated to the point of regretting not staying in longer than four years. Honors he received included the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and National Service Defense Medal. His tour of duty included eighteen months in Japan. Bill loved the outdoors and most sports, including hunting, fishing, boating, and water skiing. In fact, he taught his nieces how to ski. An excellent cook, he made the best 'Elk Hunter' breakfast for miles around. He was a big hearted person and would do anything for anybody. When needed, he was always there. His nieces and nephews reminisced 'if Mom or Dad said no, we would go to Uncle Bill and Aunt Hazel!' On September 8, 1956, Bill was united in marriage with Hazel Louise Haas at Kansas City. She preceded him in death on July 28, 1991. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willard Ogle; and two infant sisters.
