William Edward Gibson

RESIDENCE HISTORY: Following his military service, he moved to California in November of 1969. The last eighteen years, he lived in Hawthorne, California. EDUCATION: Bill graduated from Altamont (Kansas) High School with the class of 1961 and El Camino Junior College in Torrance, California, in the 1970`s, majoring in air conditioning and refrigerator maintenance. OCCUPATION & BUSINESS: He was a funeral director and embalmer for McCormick Mortuary in Inglewood, California; board member and instructor at El Camino Junior College; construction and sheet metal worker; and worked for TRW (Thomas-Ramo-Woodridge) now known as Northop-Grumman, an aerospace defense contracting company, in Redondo Beach, California, for twenty-eight years, retiring in June of 2004. GOVERNMENT SERVICE: Bill served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of E-5, with his tour of duty including Vietnam. MARRIAGE: On December 21, 1963, Bill was united in marriage with Wilma Coons at Springfield, Missouri. She survives of their home. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2005. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 17, 2005, at White & Day Mortuary in Manhattan Beach, California. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Katrina Palan. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Gibson at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 3 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. CEMETERY: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901of Ottawa. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Kansas State University Center for Cancer Research, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
