William Donald Rooney

William Donald Rooney, 78, Bucyrus, KS, passed away January 10, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital. William Donald Rooney (Don) was born to Wm. Cletus and Mary Angela Rooney on October 20, 1930 in Cameron, Missouri. He attended Cameron High School and was graduated in 1948. Don married Marie Joan Schmid on June 1, 1957 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Don attended the night division at Rockhurst College and was graduated with the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in 1965. From 1967 until his death, he practiced as a self-employed Certified Public Accountant. In 1976, the family moved to Bucyrus, Kansas, and Don added farming to his life pursuits. From that time on, he was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wea. His vision for the parish to have a grade school was realized in 2000. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in the Fourth Degree and served as Financial Secretary for Holy Rosary Council 12546. He loved his family and enjoyed his accounting practice, his clients, farming, and his work with Queen of the Holy Rosary Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Josephine, Mary Lou and Sharon, two brothers, J.C. and Tom, and an infant daughter, Mary Rose. He is survived by his wife, Marie, and four sons and a daughter-in-law: Fr. John C. Rooney of Shelby, Nebraska; Fr. Donald J. Rooney of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Robert G. Rooney of Overland Park, Kansas; and Joseph M. and Caroline Rooney of Leawood, Kansas. He dearly loved being with his three grandchildren, Alex, Charlotte, and Eric Rooney. The Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 13, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wea, Kansas, with the Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, also at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church. Burial in Queen of the Holy Rosary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given for Masses and as a memorial to Queen of the Holy Rosary School.
