William DeWitt “Bill” Wright, 64, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at his home in Homewood, Kansas, with his family by his side. Cremation is planned. Family will meet with friends at Dengel & Son Mortuary, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Friday, June 20, 2014. Bill was born Thursday, September 29, 1949, in Monterey Park, California, the son of DeWitt Howard and Frances Edna (Burks) Wright. He lived in various locations throughout the United States, including Hawaii, California, and North Carolina, before moving in 1981 to the Homewood area. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, from 1970 to 1979, attaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He was a helicopter mechanic, and from 1975 to 1977, was a drill instructor in San Diego, California. While serving in the military, he received his GED. Bill was united in marriage with Pat Eneihen September 14, 1971, in Los Angeles, California. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his mother, Frances Hills of Ottawa; two daughters, Kim Wright, and Amy Welton and husband Ricky all of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Garrett Wright, Mya Huyett, Drew Birzer, Avery and Evan Welton, and Jadelyn O’Dell; great-granddaughter, Emmalyn Finch; sister, Dorothy Dowdy and husband Ron of Ottawa; numerous nieces and nephews; and son-in-law, Todd O’Dell. He was preceded in death by his father; and brother, Eddie Wright. Bill worked for Havens Steel as a fitter/welder from 1979 to 1997, and Fashion Inc from 1997 to present. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting squirrel, deer and pheasant. He also enjoyed building things with his hands.
