William Dale Barkley

William Dale 'Bill' Barkley was born February 16, 1955, at Riverside, California. He was the son of Robert and Josephine (Maxwell) Barkley. Bill was raised in the Centropolis area and was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, until his death Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the age of forty-eight years. Bill graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1973. Bill was employed as Facilities & Operations/Construction Supervisor for the University of Kansas in Lawrence the past eighteen years. On August 30, 1974, Bill was united in marriage with Joyce B. Rich at Baldwin City, Kansas. She survives of their home. Bill raised five children, four of whom remain dear and loyal to the family, Crystal Barkley, age 26, of Lawrence, Elizabeth Crump, age 23, of Pomona, and 'the twins', William Cody and Jody Lynn Barkley, age 15, both of the home. Traci Hower left the family in 1991. Bill is survived by one grandson, Brandon Barkley, and is expecting his second grandchild in June. He has two unseen grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his parents, Robert and Josephine Barkley of Pomona; four sisters, Wanda Andrews of Pomona, Sheryl Baugher of Ottawa, Jo Ellen Waltman of Baldwin, Lea Ann Collins of Jasper, Arkansas; and, two brothers, David Barkley of Baldwin, Don Barkley of Wellsville. He is preceded in death by a brother, Robert Barkley, in 1992. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2004. IN STATE: Mr. Barkley will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
