William D. Burgoon, Sr.

William D. “Bill” Burgoon, Sr., age 79, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019, at AdventHealth Ottawa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa. Interment will follow at Sutton Cemetery west of Baldwin Junction on 56 Hwy with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. A Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a visitation for family and friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Bill was born on Tuesday, October 24, 1939 at Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Emery and Hazel Sutton Burgoon. He lived in Franklin County, Kansas and moved to Fort Scott, Kansas; Nevada, Missouri and Pratt, Kansas before returning to Ottawa in1986. Bill graduated from Princeton High School with the class of 1957. He served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, from July 17, 1964 until June 30, 1968, with the 1st Cavalry Division. Bill worked for Gibson Discount in Ottawa and later worked at Dazey Corporation in Gardner and Osage City retiring in 2004 as an equipment operator from Walmart Distribution Center of Ottawa. Bill was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa. On November 6, 1965, Bill was united in marriage with Sharon Kay Renzenberger at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greeley, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Hazel Burgoon sister, Pamela Jean Mitchell, and stepfather, Jim Hollon. Bill is survived by his son, William D. Burgoon, Jr. and daughter, Stacy Burgoon, both of Ottawa; sister, Pat Gorton of Ottawa and several nieces, nephews and friends.
