William “Bill” York, 67, Princeton, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Hospice House, Topeka. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa. He was born April 19, 1942, in Topeka, to Dudley Montillian and Gladys Faye (Smith) York. He grew up in St. George and lived in several communities in Nebraska and central Kansas before moving to Princeton in 2001. He graduated from St. George High School in St. George in 1960. He worked as the general manager and grain merchandiser for Manhattan Co-op and for CGF Grain Company in Topeka, Andale Co-op and DeBruce Grain in Nebraska City, Neb. He also worked as a security guard for Wackenhut Security in Kansas City. He served in the Army National Guard and was activated to serve in the Army during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church; a Kansas hunter safety instructor for 15 years; life member of the North American Hunting Club; life member of the Kansas State Rifle Association; an Arthur Capper Cooperative Center contributor at KSU; past president and board member of the Kansas Co-op Council; and a member of the Kansas Grain & Feed Dealers Association. He married Karen Kay Kelley June 2, 1963, at Manhattan. She survives of the home. Other survivors include daughters Teralyn Cohn and her husband, Gary, Bentley, Tanalea Melancon and her husband, Dale, Olathe, and Tiffany Cheatum and her husband, Doug,Wichita; brothers, Tom York, Wichita, Doug York, Topeka, and Dwight York,Wamego; granddaughters, Hillary Cohn and Tamieka Melancon; grandsons, James Cohn, Traeton Melancon, Clayton Cheatum and Kenton Cheatum; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Gladys York. Friends may pay their respects after 1 p.m. Sunday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, where the family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at St. George Cemetery, St. George. Memorial contributions can be made to the Kansas Dialysis Service, the Kansas Grain & Feed Dealer Scholarship Fund or the Faith Lutheran Church in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
