William R. “Bill” Gilbert, Sr., 74, of Pomona, Kansas, died Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was born on Thursday, February 23, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of William and Annie (DeMoss) Gilbert Jr. II. He was a near lifelong Ottawa, Kansas resident; he also resided in Quenemo and Effingham, Kansas. On May 12, 1962 Bill was united in marriage with Earlene Kay Postlethwaite in Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2004. Bill worked for Yellow Freight as a truck driver for thirty years. He also owned and operated a restaurant in Effingham, Kansas. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Living Way Apostolic Church. He is survived by his: Daughter-Katherine Falk of Kansas City, KS Son-William Gilbert of Quenemo, KS Son-James Gilbert of Melvern, KS Brother-Jack Gilbert Sister-Chris Jones Grandchildren-Eleven Gt.Grandchildren-Three He is preceded in death by his: Parents - William and Annie Gilbert Jr. II. Wife-Earlene Gilbert Daughter-Deborah Hill Sister-Judy Cummings SERVICES: Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Gilbert at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Thursday prior to graveside service.
