William "Bill" Cherry

William “Bill” Cherry, age 61, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010. He was born on Tuesday, May 3, 1949, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Harold and Martha (Whiteford) Cherry. Bill grew up in Garnett. He also lived in Ottawa, Waverly, and Lawrence prior to returning to Ottawa in 2007. Bill graduated from Waverly High School with the class of 1967 and attended Emporia State one year. He worked as a warehouseman the past four years for American Eagle Distribution of Ottawa. He was previously an assistant manager for Dillon’s and a cleaning agency in Lawrence. He also worked at Wal-Mart in Ottawa in the produce and was previously a fireman for the city of Ottawa in the late 1960’s. Bill served in the Army National Guard seven years. Bill was a member of St. Mathews Church of Topeka, Waverly United Methodist Church of Waverly, and Philippines’ Association of Lawrence, Kansas. On Wednesday, May 26, 2004, Bill was united in marriage with Rochelle Singco Senerpida in Lawrence, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife-Rochelle Cherry of the home; Son-Bill Cherry of Emporia, Kansas; Son-Gary Cherry of Emporia, Kansas Brother-Jake Cherry of Burlington, Kansas; Sister-Judy Sawyer of Lawrence, Kansas; Grandchild-Alyssa Cherry; Grandchild-Matthew Cherry; Grandchild-Andrew Cherry and Step-Grandchild-Ariana Leone. Bill is preceded in death by his Parents-Harold and Martha (Whiteford) Cherry. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. IN STATE: Mr. Cherry will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Monday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Bill Cherry Memorial Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
