Wilfred William Bugner was born on Thursday, August 17, 1922, in Andale, Kansas. He was the son of John, Sr. and Josephine (Irsik) Bugner. Wilfred grew up in Sedgwick County and also lived in Ingles, Jetmore, and Eureka, before moving to Franklin County in 1953, where he made his home until his death on Saturday, December 16, 2006, at the age of eighty-four years. He was self-employed as a plumber, owning Bugner Plumbing in Ottawa for over twenty years, retiring in December of 1990. Wilfred served in the United States Army with the 843rd Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II from January of 1943 until December of 1945, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon, four Bronze Service Stars, the World War II Victory Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal for his service in Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe. In his younger years, Wilfred attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Ost, Kansas. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles; Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, all of Ottawa.Wilfred enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and gardening. He loved playing ball in past years with their kids and greatly enjoyed their grandchildren and family gatherings. He also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with his friends. On January 21,1947, Wilfred was united in marriage with Virginia Timmermeyer in Wichita, Kansas. They celebrated fifty-nine years together. She survives of their home. He is also survived by four daughters, Linda Hunt of Ottawa, KS, Mary Koorstad and her husband, Bob, of Jacksonville, AR, Ellen Lancaster and her husband, John, of Redfield, KS, Jean Bell and her husband, Greg, of Mesa, AZ; three sons, James Bugner and his wife, Lisa, of Fulton, KS, Gerald Bugner and Julie Brooks of Olathe, KS, Donald Bugner and his wife, Deb, of Ottawa, KS; sister, Mary Seiler and her husband, Sylvester, of Wichita, KS; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beatrice Bugner, Marjorie Fisher; and four brothers, Leo, Robert, John, Jr. and infant, Harold Bugner. SERVICES: A funeral mass will be held from Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Bugner after 5:00 p.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to service hour, where a rosary will be said Wednesday evening at 7:00 followed by a family visitation at 7:30. CEMETERY: Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas, with Military Honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
