Wilda Ruth (Plough) Dickey, 74, Ottawa, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Newman Regional Health Center, Emporia. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Dengel & Son Mortuary. She was born Dec. 14, 1933, at Tucson, Ariz., to James Pearson Plough and Carrie Charlcie (Rodgers) Plough. She moved to the Ottawa area from Arizona in 1954. She attended schools in Arizona and later earned her General Education Development Diploma. She was a member of Pomona United Methodist Church and a past member and president of Rebekah Lodge of Pomona. After moving to Ottawa, she attended Community Foursquare Church. She worked as a nutrition attendant at Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa. She also worked as a cook at the Pomona Grade School and then as head cook and manager at both schools in Pomona. She left in 1988 after a total of 25 years of service. For the past nine years she worked for Mid-America Nutrition Program as site manager for Sunflower Plaza and then as a site manager for Washburn Towers. She married John Thomas Dickey Dec. 25, 1954, at Pomona. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1995. Survivors include daughters, Charlene Schmidt and her husband, Larry, Moundridge, and Marlene Bender, and her husband, Larry, Waverly; a son, John William Dickey, and his wife, Frances, Gibsonia, Pa.; sisters, Jimmie Nell Stoddard, Benson, Ariz., Charlcie Garcia, St. David, Ariz., and Charlotte Ryan, Tombstone, Ariz.; grandchildren, Travis Schmidt, Craig Schmidt, Mica Schmidt, Karrie Bender, Brian Bender, Thomas Dickey and Elizabeth Dickey. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Jimbo Plough. Friends may pay their respects 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Private family committal services will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Mid-America Nutrition Program in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
