Wilda Jean Wright

September 13, 1920 — April 8, 2001

Wilda attended Greenwood Grade School, Pomona High School for ninth grade, finishing that year at Ottawa Junior High School and graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1938. She was a professional waitress for many years, working at Crown Drug Store from November of 1945 until November of 1947, Silver Leaf Caf' in 1943, Eat Shoppe from October of 1940 until February of 1941, all in Ottawa; Oak Lodge in Baldwin from November of 1947 until January of 1951; Herndon Drug from February of 1951 until May of 1952, Parmelee Products from December of 1961 until January of 1963, Commonwealth Theatre Drive-In as concession manager from 1969 through 1971, Hill House from November of 1971 until March of 1977, Country Kitchen from March through September of 1977, and again at Hill House from September of 1977 until her retirement in March of 1991. She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, which was founded by her great-grandfather, Harrison Reed, and also attended North Baptist Church, Ottawa. She was formerly active in the Extension Homemaker`s Unit, and member of the Eastern Star. Wilda enjoyed the company of her pet cats, and also enjoyed playing the piano, singing hymns and, most of all, spending time with her family and grandchildren. On September 15, 1940, Wilda was united in marriage with Lawrence Marion Wright at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1987. She is also preceded by her parents; sister, Bernice Spaulding; and two brothers, John and Merle Farris. She is survived by her son, Lawrence M. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, 2001, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dengel & Son Mortuary at 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS. Services will be held Thursday, April 12, 2001, at 10:00 AM at Dengel & Son Mortuary at 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS. Rev. Bob Miller will be officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, April 12, at 11:30 AM. Memorials can be sent to Greenwood Baptist Church Pallbearers will be: Darold Cain, Fred Vogler, Eldon Turner, Jerry Farris, Milton Farris MOM`S SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 tablespoons milk 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder Bake 8 minutes at 375 degrees
