Wayne Arthur O’Neil, age 88, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Sunday, January 24, 2010, at Richmond Care Center in Richmond, Kansas. He was born on Tuesday, March 15, 1921, in Wellsville, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Paul John and Edith Mae (Pearson) O’Neil. Wayne lived in Independence, Missouri from 1953 until 1980, moving to Tucson, Arizona for three years, then spent ten to twelve winters there and summers in Montana. He moved to Ottawa on October 1, 1994. Wayne graduated from Wellsville High School in Wellsville, Kansas with the class of 1939 and attended one year of business college in Lawrence, Kansas. Wayne worked thirty years as a supply officer at the Ammunition Manufacturing Plant for the Department of Defense with the United States government in Independence, Missouri, retiring in 1976. Wayne served during World War II from August, 1942 until February, 1946 in the United States Army. Wayne attended First United Methodist Church of Ottawa and Oxford Service Forum Sunday School Class; Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Independence, Missouri; the National Association of Retired Federal Employees; and two camping clubs, the Camper Ranch Club and the Escapees Club. On May 16, 1953, Wayne was united in marriage with Neva Lucille Bean in Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 7, 1999. On February 14, 2000, he was united in marriage with Elda Campbell in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife: Elda Campbell-O’Neil of the home Son: Kenneth O’Neil of Osawatomie, Kansas Elda’s three sons: Tom Campbell of Lenexa, Kansas Duane Campbell of Ottawa, Kansas Craig Campbell of Lakeland, Florida Brother-Forrest O’Neil of Wellsville, Kansas Brother-Donald O’Neil of San Diego, California Brother-Frank O’Neil of Wellsville, Kansas He is preceded in death by his: Parents-Paul John and Edith Mae (Pearson) O’Neil First Wife-Neva Lucille (Bean) O’Neil Sister-Lois Caruthers SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010. Cremation will follow. INSTATE: Mr. O'Neil will lie in state at Dengel and Son Mortuary after 9:00 am Thursday to service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Inurnment will take place at a later date at Earlton Cemetery, Earlton, Kansas.
