Waunita Mae Happy was born on Saturday, June 11, 1921, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of William Ira and Edith (Barr) Happy. She moved from Ottawa to Shawnee Mission, Kansas, where she made her home the last thirty-five years, until her death on Friday, January 27, 2006, at the age of eighty-four years. Waunita graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1939, and attended Marion College, now Indiana Wesleyan University, in Marion, Indiana. She was employed by Kansas City Power & Light on December 3, 1952. She worked twenty-nine years in customer service, until retirement on January 1, 1982. Ms. Happy was a devoted member of BreakPointe Community Church in Overland Park, Kansas, and Leader for the Koinonia Senior group of the church. She lived a Christian life, which stands as a memorial with manifestation of her duties well done. She was also active in the Johnson County Genealogical Society Library, Inc., serving two years as registrar. Over the years, Waunita's love for genealogy took her on several travels, which she greatly enjoyed. She also enjoyed eating out, knitting and embroidery, creating many lovely items for her family and friends to cherish through the years. She is survived by two nephews, Carl Bennett of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kenneth Bennett of Fox Lake, Illinois; niece, Shirley Taylor of Rolla, Missouri; fourteen great-nieces and nephews; and many great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ervin Happy; sister, Evelyn Kathryn Bennett; niece, Ann Salb; and nephew, Larry Bennett. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from Breakpoint Community Church 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2006. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Tom Kinnan and Pastor Densel Ball. IN STATE: The family will meet with friends 10:00 a.m., Tuesday prior to the service at the Breakpoint Community Church. CEMETERY: Family and friends will meet at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, 2006 at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas for interment.
