Wanda “Jo” Perney, 84 of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Ottawa Retirement Village in Ottawa. Funeral Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, followed by a private family burial. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Perney at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday, June 24, 2013. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas She was born on Friday, June 22, 1928 in Memphis, Texas, the daughter of Clarence Edgar and Julia (Darwin) LeCompte. Jo was raised in various towns in Texas, lived twenty years in Belton, Texas, eleven years in Topeka, Kansas, twenty years in Quenemo, Kansas, and in Ottawa, Kansas from 1996. She attended schools in Belton, Texas. Jo was a homemaker also working from 1973 until 1977 as a seamstress at H. D. Lee in Ottawa and for Marais Des Cygnes Valley USD 456 in Melvern, Kansas from 1979 until 1993. She was a long time member of the 15th Street Church of Christ in Ottawa. On Wednesday, March 10, 1948, Wanda was united in marriage with John W. Perney in Belton, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1996. Survivors include her son, John C. Perney and wife Donna of Grandview, Missouri; granddaughter, Stacey Fraughton and husband John of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great grandson, Nathan Davis of Colorado Springs, two great granddaughters, Sarah Davis, and Kimberly Fraughton both of Colorado Springs; brother-in-law, Jerry Perney and wife Gay of Paso Robles, California; nephews and nieces from Texas, Colorado, California and Kansas. Wanda was also preceded in death by her son, Vern Perney; parents; and two sisters, Lois Levy and Charlene Easley.
