Walter Herman Lohaus, age 91, passed away September 13, 2017 at Olathe Medical Center. Walter Herman Lohaus was born on April 13, 1926 in Lincoln County, Oklahoma to Henry and Martha Niemeyer Lohaus. He was the oldest of eight children. On May 9, 1926, he was baptized at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lincoln County, Oklahoma. He attended school at Lone Oak School, a one room country school in Lincoln County. On May 12, 1940, he confirmed his faith at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cushing, Oklahoma. After completion of eighth grade he worked with his father maintaining the country roads in Lincoln County and also building terraces and ponds. He later drove a school bus. In 1952, he joined his family who had moved to Paola, Kansas and went to work as a truck driver for Fluor Corp. When Fluor moved to Texas he drove a truck for MidAmerica Propane. After retiring from truck driving he worked for Wilson and Son Funeral Home and later as a janitor at the Miami County Courthouse and Jail. Here he received an award for Worker of the Year at the age of 77 given during National Employ the Older Worker week. He retired on January 1, 2013. On July 12, 1953, he married Hilda Minden Weaver and became a step-father to her two young children, Marlene and Darrell Weaver. Later Marlene’s two young sons made their home with him and Hilda for several years. Hilda died in a car accident on April 21, 1985. On February 28, 1986, he married Evelyn Parks Myers and became a step-father to her children, David and Crystal Myers. Walter was a member of First Lutheran Church, Paola, where he had taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and held several offices. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Hilda; an infant sister; a brother, Lawrence; step-son, Darrell Weaver; and step-son-in-law, Ralph Wallace. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of the home; step-children, Marlene Wallace, David Myers, and Crystal Miller; step daughter-in-law Jane Weaver; numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and step great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Martin Lohaus of Blossom, Texas, and Richard Karl Lohaus of Paola; three sisters, Henryetta Sander of Elsmore, Kansas; Katherine Parker of Cushing, Oklahoma; and Leona Rentz of Paola.
