Wallace H. Whitney, age 87, of Louisburg, KS, died May 12, 2009 at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Louisburg United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Louisburg Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion John P. Hand Post No. 250. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Louisburg United Methodist Church or Louisburg Library. To leave a special message for the family, please visit www.penwellgabel.com. Wallace was born July 9, 1921, in Spring Hill, KS, being the oldest son of Herman and Jesse Anna McDaniel Whitney. Wallace proudly served as a United States Navy airman in WWII, stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. He married Mary Frances Boyd in Spring Hill on March 20, 1944. To this union, three sons were born. Wallace and Frances lived in several area residences before settling in Louisburg in 1949. Wallace also had many jobs, including owning a shoe repair shop in Louisburg. During one of Frances" illnesses, Wallace prayed for her life to be spared. He promised to find a job helping and caring for others. This prayer was answered and led Wallace to his career at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Wallace was a certified orthodist for thirty years, specializing in spinal deformities. His favorite pastimes included traveling and being an avid supporter of the Kansas City Royals. Wallace was also blessed with a beautiful tenor voice that was greatly appreciated in many local choirs. He was a loving and giving husband and father who did many good deeds during his life. He will be greatly missed by his wife, his sons, and many others. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Rarick; a brother, Bill; a sister, Eloise, during infancy; and his oldest son, Wallace, Jr., on February 11, 2009. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Frances of the home; two sons, Norman of Kansas City, MO, and John of the home; and a sister, Beatrice Barlow of Blue Springs, MO.
