Vivian Yates

Vivian (Given) Yates, age 93, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas. She was born on Sunday, February 25, 1917, in Kansas City, Missouri. She moved from Kansas City, Missouri, to Princeton, Kansas in 1966. She also lived in Richmond, Kansas a short time before moving to Manhattan, Kansas approximately six years ago. . Vivian worked in housekeeping for Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, twenty years, retiring in the early 1980’s. She was also a homemaker. In 1948, Vivian was united in marriage with LaVerne Melvin Yates in Kansas City, Missouri. They celebrated sixty years together. He preceded her in death September 13, 2008. She is survived by her: Son-Ron Yates and his wife, Glenda, of Ottawa, Kansas; Daughter-Robin Matthews and her husband, Matt, of Manhattan, Kansas; Daughter-Sheryl Dunn and her husband, Gary, of Ottawa, Kansas; Grandchild-Michelle Fechner of Manhattan, Kansas; Grandchild-Kevin Matthews of Manhattan, Kansas; Grandchild-Melissa Dean of Baldwin, Kansas; Grandchild-Kristie Canas of Shawnee, Kansas; Grandchild-Sarah Kaub of Ottawa, Kansas; Great-Grandchildren-Sixteen. She was preceded in death by her: Husband-Laverne Melvin Yates; Sister-Anna Brass; Sister-Mary White; Sister-Dorothy Haley; Infant Sister-Helen Given; Brother-Charles Given; Brother-Harold Given; Brother-Edward Given. SERVICES: Memorial Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010. IN STATE: Cremation is planned. CEMETERY: A private family inurnment will be at a later date at Princeton Cemetery, in Princeton, Kansas.
