Viola Virginia Underwood was born May 19, 1920, at Williamsburg, Kansas. She was the daughter of Charles J. Bush, Sr. and Helen Leona (Baer) Bush. She was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, living in Williamsburg and Ottawa, until her death Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at the age of eighty-four years. Virginia attended Williamsburg High School with the class of 1938. She worked for Franklin County over twenty years, in the clerk's office and as deputy appraiser, retiring in 1978. During World War II, she worked at Hercules Sunflower Ammunition Plant in DeSoto. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. In 1975, when she was a grandmother, she earned her pilot's license. She flew with her husband, Glenn, to many places all over the United States and many places in Canada. They also flew to many places in Alaska including Fairbanks, Anchorage, Nome, Barrow, and Point Barrow. They served as each other's co-pilot. She was an avid Kansas University Basketball fan. She also loved flower gardening; was a serious card player, belonging to several Bridge Clubs; and, for many years, bowled on numerous teams including Guys and Dolls. She was also a member of the 600 Club. On September 15, 1939, Virginia was united in marriage with Dale Edward Gossett at Lyndon. He died during combat on July 26, 1944, during World War II. On December 23, 1978, Virginia was united in marriage with Glenn J. Underwood in Ottawa. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her son, William Dale Gossett and his wife, Nancy, of Aiken, SC; two stepsons, Gary L. Underwood and his wife, Chris, of Baldwin City, KS, Douglas K. Underwood and his wife, Martha, of Lake Ozark, MO; sister, Marilyn Underwood of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Tami Ericson of King George, VA, Melissa Rimando of Aiken, SC, Barbara Wells of Lawrence, KS, Kyle Underwood of Denver, CO, Kristin Allen of Lake Ozark, MO, Jane Dubbs of Lake Ozark, MO; six great-grandchildren, Andy Ericson of King George, VA, Greg Ericson of King George, VA, Ryan Rimando of Aiken, SC, Craig Rimando of Aiken, SC, Jackson Allen of Lake Ozark, MO and Adraine Dubbs of Lake Ozark, MO. Mrs. Underwood's parents and three brothers, Charles Bush, Jr., John Bush (also during World War II), and Roger Bush preceded her in death. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Jim Stigall. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday up until the service hour. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
