November 10, 1944 — April 15, 2015

Virginia Carol Gatlin Sweet, age 70, of Paola passed away on April 15, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. Virginia was born November 10, 1944 at the Burson Nursing Home, daughter of David Arnold and Katherine Stephens Gatlin. She was raised in the Paola area and graduated from Paola High School in 1962. She lived several years in the Kansas City area close to St. Luke"s Hospital where she worked as an administrator"s secretary. She married Franklin C. Sweet on September 13, 1969. After her first child, Robin Carol was born in 1972; she quit working to raise her children. They moved to rural Paola. A son, Raymond Alan was born in 1976. When the children were older she went back to work in the Osawatomie area for Dr. Andrew Wymore and Mid-West Survey. She was employed with the Johnson County Trustee Department until retiring in 2012. Virginia and Frank enjoyed 45 years of a fairy tale marriage. Her family was her #1. Virginia made the best pickled beets and apple pie. She enjoyed mowing grass on her Wheel Horse. She also enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers and irises, canning, reading, embroidering, working word search puzzles and playing with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Franklin of the home; children Robin McClain of Niangua, MO, and Raymond Sweet of Osawatomie; two grandsons Mark Sams and Trever Sweet; sisters Janie Surber of Las Vegas, NV, Joyce Klawonn of Osawatomie, Janice Gatlin of Osawatomie, Judy Neal of Rosepine, LA, Jill Sharp of Kansas City, KS; brothers David Gatlin of Paola, Ronald Gatlin of Louisburg, and Rodney Gatlin of Osawatomie.
