Virginia Lea Pennington, age 75, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital in Gardner, KS. She was born on Monday, July 2, 1934, in Elmdale, Kansas. She was the daughter of Walter C. and Alta M. (Keck) Kohlman. She has been a resident of Ottawa since 2006, moving from Emporia, Kansas, where she was a near lifelong resident. She was manager and owner of Ranch House Motel in Emporia, Kansas, from 1955 to 1969. She was also manager of several Emporia area motels and restaurants from 1969 to retirement in 2004. She attended First Congregational Church in Emporia. She was a past president and life member of Assembly #31, Social Order of the Beauceant; member of Merriam Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Post #1980, Emporia; Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #2587 Auxiliary, Emporia; Post #5, American Legion Auxiliary, Emporia; and served on I.T.C. Board of Visitor Tours and Emporia Sports Committee. On July 21, 1955, Virginia was united in marriage with Glen A. Pennington in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1977.
