Virginia L. Turner, 79, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at her home in Ottawa, Kansas, with her family by her side. Funeral Services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 23, 2013. Friends may pay their respects to Virginia at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. Wednesday. Interment at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. Virginia was born on Friday, February 9, 1934, the daughter of Fred T. and Jennie (Dunn) Carlson. She has lived in Ottawa since 1951 moving from Wellsville, Kansas. She graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1951. On November 4, 1955 Virginia was united in marriage with Eldon Turner in Edgerton, Kansas. Survivors include her husband, Eldon Turner of the home; five daughters, Jo Mazzetta and husband Eldo, Rae Warren and husband Steve, Lou Baker and husband Jeff, Tracy White and husband David, and Gale Hoyt and husband Scott all of Ottawa; eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister, Linda Niccum and husband Archie and family of Gardner; sister-in-law, Doris Sullivant and family of Lawrence; and sister-in-law, Jean Flory and family of Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Jennie Carlson; and father and mother-in-law, Louis and Grace Turner. Virginia was not only a homemaker but also worked on a dairy farm and was a school bus driver. She worked at Food Town Grocery Store and Safeway as a meat cutter both of Ottawa; Safeway as a manager in the Meat Department in Osawatomie, Kansas; owned and operated Sand Creek Restaurant and Virginia’s Hill House both of Ottawa; Virginia’s Café of Wellsville; and owned and managed several rental properties. For many years she was active in the Methodist church and Franklin County Cancer Foundation. She was a member of the Union Chapel Methodist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County Cancer Foundation or Midland Hospice c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
