Virgil D. Chambers, age 77, of Ottawa, Kansas, died at his home on Tuesday, January 3, 2012. He was born on Tuesday, December 25, 1934, in Pomona, Kansas. He was the son of Clyde J. and Eva M. (Whitaker) Chambers. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. Virgil graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1952. He was an electronics technician working thirty-nine years for Honeywell, formerly known as Allied Signal and Bendix Corporation, in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring in 1996. Virgil served in the United States Navy from January of 1954 to November of 1957. He served as a machinist mate aboard the USS Porterfield. He was a former member of Central Methodist Church and Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ottawa. On September 20, 1958, Virgil was united in marriage with Carol Biggerstaff in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife-Carol Chambers of their home Daughter-Kathy Jongenelen and her husband, Will, of Ottawa, Kansas Daughter-Karen Chambers of Shawnee, Kansas Daughter-Kelley Thompson and her husband, Bob, of Princeton, Kansas Sister-Marge Kitts and her husband, Forrest, of Ottawa, Kansas Sister-Jean Clark of Ottawa, Kansas Sister-Kay Massengale of Ottawa, Kansas Brother-Gail Chambers and his wife, Edith, of Lane, Kansas Brother-Keith Chambers and his wife, Cy, of Hayden, Idaho Brother-Warren Chambers and his wife, Alice, of Pomona, Kansas Grandchildren-(7)Randi Thompson, KaCee Thompson, Aaron Jongenelen, Tasha Jongenelen, Cody Chambers, Zakkary Chambers, Elliott O’Dell Nieces & Nephews-Many Pet Dog-Lola He is preceded in death by his: Parents-Clyde J. and Eva M. Chambers Brother-Wayne Chambers Brother-Bob Chambers Brother-Don Chambers Brother-Norman Chambers Sister-Evelyn Martin Grandson-Christopher Jongenelen SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012. IN STATE: Mr. Chambers will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
