Viola Frances Mcevoy

Viola Frances McEvoy was born on Thursday, September 13, 1923 in Franklin County, Kansas. She was the daughter of Winifred Murrel and Elsie Mae (Blackburn) McFarland. Frances lived in the Pomona and Ottawa area until moving to Wichita, Kansas on June 14, 1992, where she lived until her death on Sunday, December 16, 2007, at the age of eighty-four years. She attended Franklin County schools. Frances worked at H.D. Lee, Mode O'Day, Woolworth's and several restaurants in Ottawa when she was young. She also worked as an assembler for King Radio in Olathe, where she eventually retired. Frances was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary of Ottawa and the Church of Christ in Wichita, Kansas. Frances was a devoted wife, mother and aunt, whose greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. Her hobby was collecting Red Bird statues and pretty plates along with other items with flowers, and she loved to dance, sing, take long drives, camp and go boating. On July 26, 1942, Frances was united in marriage with Lawrence Francis 'Mac' McEvoy in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 24, 1994. Frances is survived by her son-in-law, Duane L. Lash, of Wichita, Kansas; three nieces, Doris Heckman and her husband, Earl of Ottawa, Pat Maxwell and her husband, Gene, of Ottawa, and Dianne Palmer and her husband, Bill, of McPherson, Kansas; and a sister-in-law, Frances Roller, of Ottawa, Kansas. She was also preceded in death by her father, Winifred Murrel McFarland and mother, Elsie Mae McFarland-Cain; step father, Henry Oscar Cain; daughter, Wilma Jean Lash; brother, Donald Edward McFarland; two sisters, Gladys Mae Hay and Alice Evelyn Ray; and three infant siblings. Services: Graveside funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2007, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas. In State: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. McEvoy after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary to services hour, where the family will meet with friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday with services by VFW Aux. Post #5901 of Ottawa. Cemetery: Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas. Memorials: The family suggests memorials to the Multiple Sclorosis Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary 235 S. Hickory in Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
