Vincent Leroy Johnson

Vincent Leroy Johnson was born September 20, 1915, at Curlew, Iowa. He was the son of Archibald Duncan and Vina L. (Ziedler) Johnson. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, he made his home in Ottawa until his death Saturday, July 6, 2002, at the age of eighty-six years. Vincent graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1935. He was a self-employed truck driver. He was previously employed as a railroad worker for Union Pacific, Missouri Pacific, and Santa Fe Railroads. He also worked at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in Desoto, Kansas. Mr. Johnson attended First Assembly of God Church in Ottawa. He was a handyman around the house and, in his spare time, enjoyed repairing lawnmowers, at which he was quite an expert. Vincent's greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time, and visiting, with his family and friends. On September 23, 1940, Vincent was united in marriage with Cornelia Almeda Bittenbender at Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 6, 1968. He is also preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmie LeRoy Johnson; two brothers, Willard Johnson, Marvin Johnson; three sisters, Mary Ellen Mealman, Alice Johnson Allen and Jessie Johnson Morrison. He is survived by two daughters, Ramona Hildebrandt and Rebecca Beers, both of Ottawa; two sisters-in-law, Theta Johnson and Bessie Johnson, both of Ottawa; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and, two great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Ron Kimes IN STATE: Mr. Johnson will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary Monday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends 7-8 Tuesday evening.
