Vesta Mae Robinson, age 99, passed away April 7, 2010 at the Life Care Center in Osawatomie, Kansas. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 12 at 12:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Paola, with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Hillsdale Cemetery. Vesta was born June 29, 1910 in Hillsdale, Kansas to Charles A. and Blanche Ethel Snell Logan. She attended schools in Hillsdale and Paola before graduating from Ottawa High School. She was united in marriage to Walter Robinson. Jr.; they became the parents of two daughters. She was an active member of the Hillsdale AME Methodist Church. Upon it"s closing, she became a member of the St. James AME Methodist Church in Paola. Later she attended St. James Brown Chapel. Vesta was a member of the choir and taught Adult Sunday School. She also graduated from the Menninger"s Bible Class and was active in the PACO Association. She was a dedicated member of the church, serving as President of the Church Missionary Society of the St. James AME Church, President of Paola Church Women United and as Chairman of the Lucille M. Hughs Life Membership Committee of the Kansas/Nebraska Conference for over 25 years. Vesta was also a 6-year member of the Senior Citizens Advisory Board and a member of the Foster Grandparent program and served on Cancer, Polio, and United Way fundraisers. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, UVera Carter. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her two daughters; Peggy Ann Robinson of Grandview, MO, and Ethola Barr of Paola, KS; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. All of whom will miss her greatly. Memorial contributions may be to the St. James AME Methodist Church in Paola.
