Vernon Eugene Williams, 79, of Pomona, Kansas passed away Friday, January 27, 2023, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Family will meet with friends from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 3, 2023, at the mortuary.
Interment Evergreen Mound Cemetery, Ottawa.
Vernon was born Tuesday, November 16, 1943, in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Arthur Harold and Mary Jane (Swan) Williams.
He was raised in Humboldt, Kansas moving to Tonganoxie where he resided for ten years. Vernon then moved to Pomona in 1985.
Vernon graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1961 and attended trade school in Chanute.
He was united in marriage to Jennie Lorene Catt June 26, 1985, in Lawrence, Kansas. She proceeded him in death on December 30, 2021.
Vernon was a lifelong farmer and was employed with the Santa Fe Railroad from 1969 to 2000 where he was a railroad conductor for thirty-one years.
He was a former member of the Centropolis Baptist Church and a member of the United Transportation Union #94, Kansas City, Kansas. Vernon enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and watching westerns. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and son Devin Williams.
Survivors include three children, Kevin Williams (Wendy) of Gladstone, Missouri, Frankie Carr (Ted) of Allen, Kansas, and Carol Allender of Pomona; sister Judy Coultis (Don) of Valley Center Kansas; eleven grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County 4-H Development Fund c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
