Vernon Enos Honn

Vernon Enos Honn, 78 ,of Ottawa, Kansas died on Friday, September 30, 2005 at his home He was the son of Enos Honn(deceased) and Grace (Burnett) Honn(deceased). He was born on Tuesday, October 26, 1926, in Ottawa. Mr. Honn was a lifelong Ottawa resident. Vernon attended Ottawa High School and earned his General Education Development diploma following his military service. During the 1940`s he was a mechanic for Ned Shull`s Motor. Vernon worked eleven years, during the 1950`s and 60`s, for Sunflower Ordinance Plant in Eudora, Kansas; He Managed Cities Service Station in Ottawa during the late 1960`s and During the 1970`s and 80`s operated Honn`s Trash Service for fourteen years. Mr. Honn served in the United States Army as a Technician Fifth Grade with the Headquarters Company 6800th Special Troops during WW II, stationed in Germany. He recieved the WW II Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. Vernon was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Aerie Lodge #2700, Charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, serving as president from 1962 until 1963 and from 1967 until 1968; and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post #5901 all in Ottawa. On June 8, 1947 Vernon was united in marriage with Imogene Whitacre at Ottawa, survives of their home. Survivors include: Wife-Imogene (Whitacre) Honn of Ottawa, Kan. Son & daughter-in-law-James and (Kathy) Honn of Hoyt, Kan. Son and daughter-in-law-Frank and (Donna) Honn of Topeka, Kan. Daughter-Susan Maag of Carbondale, Kan. Brother & sister-in-law-Harold and Betty Honn of Bella Vista, Ark. Sister-Hazel Lee Crumm of Ottawa, Kan. Sister & brother-in-law-Shirley and Charles Eisenbise of Kansas City, Mo. Grandchildren-Seven Great Grandchildren-Nine He was preceded in Death by: Mother-Grace (Burnett) Honn Father-Enos Honn SERVICES: A memorial service will be held from the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2005.Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post #5901 will be held at Highland Cemetery. IN STATE: Mr. Honn will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 PM Monday and 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Tuesday where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 Tuesday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice or Westminster Presbyterian Church c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
