Vern Sink was born on Wednesday, January 5, 1910, north of Pomona, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of John Henry and Laura Ellen (Bean) Sink. Vern was a near lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident. He moved to Newton, Kansas four years ago, where he made his home until his death Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at the age of ninety-five. He attended rural schools in Franklin County. He was a lifelong farmer and cattleman. Vern attended Centropolis Christian Church and was a member of Farm Bureau and Ottawa Promenaders Square Dance Club. He enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to travel, camp out and go fishing. Vern's greatest enjoyment, however, came from his family, especially, the young children. They always brought a smile to his face. On September 29, 1939, Vern was united in marriage with Velma May Graves in Emporia, Kansas. They celebrated sixty years together. She preceded him in death on August 14, 1999. He is also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Earl Sink, Ernest Sink, and Claude Sink. Mr. Sink is survived by his daughter, Iris D. Morton of Newton, Kansas; son, Loren R. Shaw and his wife, Carol, of Indianola, Iowa; daughter, Rose Ann Thompson and her husband, Larry, of Marble Falls, Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2005. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Sink at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening.
