Verda Mae Dyer, 84, Pomona, died Sunday, June 10, 2007, at Village Manor Nursing Home, Ottawa. She was born Feb. 6, 1923, at St. Louis, Okla., to George and Flora (Carlton) Clour. She lived in Pomona since 1945, moving from Wichita. Verda graduated from St. Louis High School in St. Louis, Oklahoma, with the class of 1941. She was a homemaker; worked as a riveter for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas, during World War II in the early 1940`s; helped milk cows on the family dairy farm for many years; and was a cook at Appanoose Grade School during the mid 1960`s. She was a member of Appanoose Baptist Church and American Baptist Women. On August 11, 1945, Verda was united in marriage with Lawrence Dyer in Winfield, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2002. She also was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Treva Turner; and three brothers, Bernard Clour, Bill Clour and Don Clour. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Barbara Dyer, Pomona; a daughter, Linda Dyer, Oskaloosa; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Kiehl, Pomona; a daughter, Patricia Griffin, Pomona; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Appanoose Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2007. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Dyer at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.
