Vera (Kejr) Weber

December 23, 1925 — November 25, 2018

Vera Kejr Weber was born to Rev. John Kejr and Rose (Hampl) Kejr on December 23, 1925 on a farm in Wilson, Kansas. On November 25, 2018 at the age of 92, Vera went to be with her Lord and Savior, whom she loved and served all her life. Growing up she was a member of First Baptist Church of Wilson, KS, a church her grandfather established for the Czech community. She attended Wilson High School and graduated with the class of 1943 and then moved to Salina and attended Brown Mackie School of Business. After graduating in 1944, she moved to Omaha where she met her future husband. In Vera’s words, “I met Bill Weber at an evening class at Omaha Bible Institute. He had just gotten back from the Army, and he also was taking some night classes. I was wearing red shoes, and we have always laughed about it being the red shoes that attracted him.” William R. Weber and Vera Mary Kejr married on December 22, 1947 and served together in ministry for over 50 years, 44 of those years were at Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa, KS, where Bill was the senior pastor. Vera worked as secretary and bookkeeper for several employers over the years. These included Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Salina, KS; Rural Bible Crusade in Omaha, NE; Lesh Oil Co in Ottawa, KS (20 years); Calvary Baptist Church of Ottawa (13 years); Ottawa University (1.5 years), and Wingert’s I-35 Service in Ottawa (7 years). She enjoyed walking, needlepoint, sewing, cooking, and baking bread. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories walking into her house to the smell of freshly baked kolaches (from an old family Czech recipe). She also enjoyed writing and compiling family memoirs for each of her three children. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Ottawa since 1951 where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for a number of years. She served as cyber secretary for the Mid-West Association of Regular Baptist Churches and was cyber secretary for the church’s foreign missionaries. She was a member of Power of the Past and spent many years as a Ransom Memorial Hospital auxiliary volunteer. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, John Kejr (1989) and Rose Kejr (1984), her husband, Bill Weber (2003), sister Naomi Kejr Stucky (2014), and brother Donald John Kejr (2016). She is survived by her three children: Jackie (Harold) Callan, Pam (Scott) Kliewer and Scott (Liz) Weber. Six grandchildren: Cara Callan, Nate Callan, Jeff Kliewer, Brad Kliewer, Ryan Kliewer and Zach Weber. Eight great-grandchildren: Melissa Kliewer, Landon Kliewer, Trevor Kliewer, Alexandria Callan, Gwendolyn Callan, Will Kliewer (named after his great-grandfather, William Weber), Anna Kate Kliewer and Grant Kliewer. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church of Ottawa, with Pastor Greg Rickard officiating. After the memorial service, light refreshments will be served downstairs giving friends an opportunity to visit and fellowship with the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be given to Calvary Baptist Church, 925 W 7th Street, Ottawa, KS 66067. Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on Vera’s Tribute Wall at www.dengelmortuary.com
