Vera G. Anderson, 93, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, August 10, 2014, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 11, 2014, at the mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. She was born Saturday, November 13, 1920 in Franklin County, Kansas, the daughter of Alvin Clyde and Gertrude Teresa (O'Flaherty) Barton. She was a lifelong Kansas resident, living mostly in Franklin and Miami Counties, moving to Ottawa in 1960. Vera graduated from Rock Creek Grade School and Wellsville High School with the class of 1939. Vera was a homemaker and worked eighteen years, mostly in quality assurance, for Hallmark Cards, Inc. in Lawrence, Kansas, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Ottawa Quilters Guild. Vera was united in marriage with Thurston S. Cox September 16, 1940, at Shawnee Mission, Kansas. They later divorced. She married Donald H. Anderson January 28, 1966, at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents; infant twin brothers, Roy and Ray Barton; infant sister, Mildred Barton; three brothers, Donald, Floyd and Glen Barton; sister, Nina Jacoby; one granddaughter; two great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Survivors include her eight children, Bonnie Randel of Ottawa, Larry G. Cox and wife Sherry of Ottawa, Karen Madl and husband Jay of Wellsville, Steve Cox and wife Brenda of Ottawa, James Cox of Kansas, Judy Mille and husband Mark of Ottawa, Linda Anderson of Baldwin City, and Darrell Anderson and wife Cindy of Ottawa; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
