Velma Estelle Kelly Velma Estelle Kelly, 98, Louisburg, Kansas, died June 16, 2008 at Louisburg Care Center. She was born May 2, 1910 at Paola, Kansas, the daughter of William Ira and Mary Anna Krumsick Barker, and grew up on a farm southeast of Paola, where she graduated from the rural Vickers school. She was a graduate of Paola High School in the class of 1928. She attended Pittsburg State Teachers College, and the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Mo. Her teaching career included Miami County rural schools, city schools of Cullison, Kansas, Osawatomie, Ks. and Louisburg, Ks. On August 14, 1943 she was united in marriage to Charles G. Kelly, and they made their home in Louisburg for 52 years. Velma was a member of the Methodist church, Louisburg; the Miami County Hospital Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an organizing member and first treasurer of the Marais des Cygnes Chapter, NSDAR, Miami County, Kansas. Velma is survived by 2 nephews, Paul & Jerome Mandrell. Services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with the visitation being from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Penwell Gabel Louisburg Chapel, Louisburg, Kansas. Burial will be in the Louisburg Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to Louisburg United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
