Veda Lucille Barnhart

Veda Lucille Barnhart was born July 21, 1919, near Baldwin, Kansas. She was the daughter of Frank and Iva (Clary) Sutton. Veda grew up in the Baldwin area, moving to the Ottawa area in 1939. In 1963, she moved to Richter, Kansas, where she made her home until her death Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at the age of eighty-four years. Veda graduated from Appanoose High School with the class of 1937. She was a lifelong homemaker. From 1955 to 1982, she was employed as a seamstress by Mode O'Day in Ottawa. She was a member of International Ladies Garment Worker's Union. Veda's family and grandchildren were her life. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with them. She loved sewing and cooking for everyone. She also enjoyed the outdoors, caring for her huge garden, camping and fishing. On November 10, 1938, Veda was united in marriage with Ted Barnhart at Overbrook, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 1, 1976. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Barnhart; brother, Harry Sutton; and two sisters, Eva Hardtarfer and Mary Pippert. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Rosa and her husband, Ralph, of Hoyt, Kansas; sister, Helen Schwalm of Baldwin, Kansas; three grandsons, Micheal Barnhart and his wife, Mary Ann, of St. Louis, Missouri, Rod Barnhart and his wife, RaJeanna, of Ottawa, Bryon Rosa of Hoyt; granddaughter, Linda Griffin and her husband, Ted, of Ottawa; and ten great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at Sutton Cemetery, Douglas County, Kansas, 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Terry Sue Wiliford. IN STATE: Mrs. Barnhart will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Thursday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Sutton Cemetery, Douglas County, Kansas.
