Vance L. Carey

Vance Lee Carey, 52, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015, at University of Kansas Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at the mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Vance was born Wednesday, March 27, 1963, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Dianna (Shuck) Carey. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1981. He continued his education receiving four years of electrical training at IBEW Trade School in Topeka. Vance was united in marriage with Stacey Ledom October 18, 1986 in Ottawa. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son, Kyle Carey of Ottawa; father, Larry Carey and wife Elaine of Moberly, Missouri; mother, Dianna Taylor and husband Bud of Ottawa; brother, Bret Carey and wife Nicole of Pomona; three step-sisters; two step-brothers; in-laws, Wayne Ledom and wife Beverly of Ottawa; brother-in-law, Chris Ledom and wife Tracey of Goddard; two nieces, Miranda Carey of Pomona and Christy Ledom of Emporia; two nephews, Coleby Carey of Pomona and Travis Ledom of Goddard. He worked as a commercial and construction electrician for IBEW in Topeka for twenty-five years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 226, Topeka. Vance was committed to his family and loved spending time with them. He was also a sports fanatic enjoying NASCAR, KU Basketball, KC Royals, KC Chiefs, golfing, bowling, fishing, and woodworking.
