Van Douglas Jameson was born November 16, 1954, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Milton and Twila Jameson. He passed away October 6, 2023, at his rural Ottawa home. He was preceded in death by his parents and great nephew Mason Lee.
Survivors include his sister Patricia Jameson; brother Daryl Jameson and his wife Connie; niece Shelly Thornbrugh and her children Rylee and Hunter and Rylee’s son River; nephew John Thornbrugh and his children Britny and Tad; niece Heather Barbarow and her husband Brett and their children Claire and Finn; nephew Bo Jameson and his son Aidan.
Van began working at a young age at Star Garage in Pomona, owned and operated by his parents. In 1965, his parents built Star Industries, Inc. in Pomona. He worked and helped manage “Star” until the business was sold in 2007. He then owned and operated Van’s Auto Cleaning in Pomona and enjoyed maintaining the family farm.
Always willing to lend a helping hand, in 2009 he was awarded the outstanding service award by the City of Pomona for his dedication and contribution to the community.
Van graduated from Ottawa High School in 1972. He was a member of the 1971 Ottawa High School State Champion basketball team. Also, an avid runner, he ran cross country. His other passion was baseball. He played shortstop throughout his school years and continued participating later in softball leagues. He was a member of the Pelton -Morrisey Painting softball team who won state and went on to win fourth in nationals. He was honored from that event as a player for the national all-star team.
The family wishes to thank Midland Care and all of Van’s acquaintances who have been concerned for his well-being. All are greatly appreciated.
A Remembrance Service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Hope Cemetery.
