Una Fern Kennedy Nutt, 97, of Paola, Kansas passed away July 29, 2017 at Olathe Medical Center. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, aunt, and a friend to many loving people. Una Fern was the oldest daughter of Marcia Fern Mathews Kennedy and William Greason Kennedy where she was born on December 14, 1919, at the Kennedy farm southeast of Paola. She attended Paola public schools and Vickers District #49 graduating from Paola High School in 1938. On a beautiful June 21st, 1942, she and James Francis Nutt of Stanley were united in marriage at Overland Park First Presbyterian Church that James’ father had helped to build. Nutt. Una Fern retired from the Register of Deeds office at the Johnson County Courthouse in Olathe, Kansas. Her position was to write deeds and county plats in the large books all done by hand with her excellent handwriting until computers came along. She was a very kind person who believed there was a place for things and everything should be in its place. She loved antiques and refinishing furniture, art and her gardens, all nature and outdoor camping and the K.C. Royals. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Paola to be near family where she lived in the Cowell Apartments in Paola for the past 30 years.
