Thomas O. Chenoweth

Thomas Oliver Chenoweth, 90, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away June 12, 2009 at the Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center where he has lived for the past two years. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 606 S. Elm in Louisburg at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17th and a visitation will be held also at the church at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Louisburg Senior Center. Tom was born in Trinidad, Colorado on August 2, 1918 to J.Wilkie Chenoweth and Minnie B. Chenoweth. He attended college for four years in Oregon, and Missouri prior to his enlistment in the Air Force during WWII. He was a First Lieutenant with the 14th Air Force"Flying Tigers and was stationed in China-India-Burma, where he valiantly served as a bombardier and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married E. Loraine Simpson, who was also from Trinidad, on November 6, 1942, in Midland, TX, where he was stationed at the time. Following the war, Tom worked for Allstate Ins. Co. as a manager which led to several moves from Chicago to K.C., Mo, to Wichita, KS and then to Overland Park, KS. Later he worked for Financial Publications for several years as a bank placement officer prior to his retirement to Tucson in 1982. Tom enjoyed sports, especially following the local teams and he enjoyed playing golf which added to his enjoyment of living in Tucson. He was also a talented artist who loved to draw, which strongly influenced a couple of his grandchildren to pursue art. After 19 years there, he and Loraine returned to the K. C. area to be closer to family. For the past seven years, Tom and Loraine lived with a daughter, Rebecca Golba and son-in-law, Charles, of Louisburg. Tom"s other children are: Charles T. Chenoweth of Overland Park; Thomas O. Chenoweth, Jr. and his wife, Kelly, of Olathe; Mary Sue Atchison and her husband, Willie, of Osage City, KS. Tom also has 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is survived by Loraine, his wife of 67 years; his sister, Margaret Davidson of Olathe; and his brother, Albert Chenoweth of Pueblo, CO. Tom was dearly loved by all of his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 606 S.
