Thomas Earl Arnold

June 5, 1915 — June 30, 2005

He grew up in Holliday, Kansas. He also lived in Galesburg, Illinois and Olathe, Kansas. In the 1950`s, he moved to Ottawa, Kansas from Melvern, Kansas. He later moved to Rantoul, Kansas, returning to Ottawa in 1992. Tom attended schools in Holliday, Kansas. He was an oilfield mechanic and worked on the railroad as a mechanic. He also worked at Sunflower Ordinance and World`s of Fun in Welding and Maintenance. Tom was a member of the United States Army attaining the rank of Tech 4. He served during World War II with the 776th Amphibian Tank Battalion. He received the American Defense Medal, American Theatre Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations Medal, with two stars and one arrowhead and the Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars. On May 10, 1941, Tom was united in marriage with Doris Marie Walters at Rich Hill, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2005. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Dan Oglesby. IN STATE: Tom will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5 p.m. Friday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends 7:30 to 8:30 Friday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Veterans of Foreign War Memorial Post #5901, Ottawa, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
