Thelma Virginia Jones

Thelma Virginia Jones, 91, a lifelong Franklin County resident, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at the mortuary. Inurnment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona. Thelma Virginia Jones lived a long full life, she was just a month shy of her 92nd birthday. She was born preterm in the family home on February 22, 1927, to Frank and Gladis (Caple) Anderson. She had one older brother, Willard Anderson, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her only son, Kelly Jones and his wife Lucia along with two granddaughters, Kendra Sparks and husband Sam and Kari Garon and husband Tom. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Alyssa Sparks, Kelly Ray Sparks, Samantha Sparks and Jacob Garon. Thelma lived most of her life in the rural communities of Franklin County. She graduated from Ottawa High School, then became a seamstress at the local sewing factory Mode-O'Day. She married H. Arlon Jones November 27, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1990. She also worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant in DeSoto for a time early in her marriage. She then became a full-time part of the dairy farm. She moved from the farm in 1991 a year after her husband passed. She was an avid painter and a bright cheerful sole as well as being known for being a bit of a spitfire at times.
