Thelma Nadine Roush

Thelma Roush passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Wellsville Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the mortuary. Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. Thelma was born April 12, 1931 to Oscar L. and Velma Pearl (Brown) Humerickhouse at their home northwest of Centropolis, Kansas. She graduated from Appanoose High School in 1948. Thelma accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at teen camp and was baptized in the Appanoose Creek. Thelma was married to Robert L. Roush December 19, 1954. They made their home on his family farm south of Princeton. Bob preceded her in death December 20, 2013. She is survived by her sister, Elda Fuller of Hope, Arkansas; three children, Ed (Patty) Roush of Paola, Jim (Lori) Roush of Princeton, and Kara (Oscar) West of Wellsville; eight grandchildren, Karissa Hallman, Bethany Roush, Seth Roush, Emily (Will) Walker, Faith Roush, Dunreath West, Dwight West and Katelyn West; four great-grandchildren, Haylie, Reagan and Bevin Hallman and Blake Roush; and many nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Ann Roush; parents; infant sister, Agnes Humerickhouse; brothers, John Humerickhouse and Glen Humerickhouse; and grandson-in-law, Joe Hallman. Thelma worked for H.D. Lee as a seamstress for nearly eight years, making collars for all the jackets. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. Thelma taught Sunday school for a few years and worked with the Pioneer Girls Club at the church. She also worked with the Jolly Sixty’s Club at church for 10 years. Thelma was a garden leader for the Acorn 4-H Club at Princeton. She crocheted afghans and embroidered dresser scarves and enjoyed painting ceramics. Thelma was also a very good seamstress. Thelma loved family and getting together for birthdays, holidays and reunions. She loved cooking for her family, was an avid gardener and canned produce for her family. She loved feeding and watching birds and growing flowers. She will be remembered as a kind and loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. The family suggests memorial contributions to Make-A-Wish Missouri & Kansas or Calvary Baptist Youth c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
