Thelma Jane Tallman

November 15, 1909 — May 9, 2003

Thelma Jane Tallman was born November 15, 1909, in Meta, Missouri. She was the daughter of George and Etta (Barnhart) Orr. She lived in Kansas City, Missouri, before moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, in 1931, where she made her home until her death Friday, May 9, 2003, at the age of ninety-three years. She was co-owner, with her husband, of Tallman Printing and Ottawa Times for forty-one years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Ottawa, Trinity United Methodist Women, Lend-a-Hand Sunday School Class, and Kansas Press Association. Thelma greatly enjoyed working alongside her husband in their printing business. She also enjoyed being a homemaker, working in her garden, and sewing. Most of all, Mrs. Tallman loved and enjoyed her family and had so much fun watching her grandchildren's sporting events. On December 14, 1929, Thelma was united in marriage with Sheldon Henry Tallman at Vienna, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1986. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Betty Jane Seymour, Marietta Roberts; brother, Loren Orr; and, grandson, Ted Hollon. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Addie Hollon, of Wellsville, Kansas; three grandsons, Mark Seymour of Ottawa, Kansas, Ben Seymour of Topeka, Kansas, William Roberts, Jr. of Pomona, Kansas; four granddaughters, Shelley Weatherbie of Vienna, Virginia, Vicki Karnes of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Susan Doughty of Manhattan, Kansas, Sandra Overcash of Olathe, Kansas; eighteen great-grandchildren; and, one great-great-grandchild. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2003. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Harriett Bechtle. IN STATE: Mrs. Tallman will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, and after 8:00 a.m. Monday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Sunday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
